Maria Isabel Salvador, the UN secretary-general's special representative to Haiti, stated, 'The situation in Haiti has regrettably worsened,' indicating escalating gang violence shifting operations beyond the capital. She noted a dire humanitarian crisis.
Salvador reported that over 700,000 people are displaced, representing a 22% increase over the last three months, as gangs spread fear and violence throughout the country.
She highlighted that attacks have surged, including a Port Sonde incident resulting in 114 civilian deaths, with unchecked gang violence encompassing sexual brutality against women and girls.
Despite the Security Council's approval of an international security force, only a small number of the pledged 3,000 troops has been deployed, and funding has been slow.
