Griff Witte Joining The Atlantic as a Managing Editor

The Atlantic has appointed Griff Witte as managing editor to lead its expanding politics and accountability team. Previously the senior politics and democracy editor at The Washington Post, Witte brings over two decades of reporting experience, including significant international coverage. Editor Jeffrey Goldberg highlighted Witte's strengths in the democracy sector as pivotal for addressing the ongoing political challenges facing the U.S. Additionally, The Atlantic has introduced new writers, signifying a broader effort to strengthen its political and cultural commentary.
As many of you know already, Griff is a journalistic force, who has led his 50-person team at The Post with energy, creativity, smarts and ambition.
His experience on the democracy beat, in particular, will help us in our coverage of the various challenges to the American way of governance.
Griff comes to us after a storied, 23-year run at The Post, where he spent much of his time as a foreign correspondent.
