Giant schnauzer wins Best in Show at Madison Square Garden
Briefly

Monty, a giant schnauzer, made history by winning Best in Show at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club dog show. Handler Katie Bernardin expressed pride in Monty's hard work. This marked Monty's retirement after winning the American Kennel Club championship and competing at Westminster twice before. His standout qualities include attitude and structure, which co-owner Sandy Nordstrom praised. Other finalists included Bourbon the whippet and several other breeds. The show emphasizes that all competing dogs are beloved pets with diverse roles. Despite controversies, Westminster continues to celebrate all dog breeds.
"He always tries so hard, and we're just proud of him," she told the crowd at Madison Square Garden.
Monty is bold, cocky and fun..."He's just a really cool dog," she said in an interview before his win.
The show champions that compete also are household pets, and some do therapy work, search-and-rescue or other canine jobs.
Winners get a trophy, ribbons and bragging rights, but no cash prize.
