During a ceremony in Berlin marking nearly 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the growing issue of antisemitism, labeling it as 'outrageous and shameful' that the Jewish community still faces discrimination today. He asserted the need for each citizen to take responsibility in combating antisemitism, especially in light of the disturbing normalization of far-right ideologies. He also referred to the Holocaust as a collective responsibility of all Germans, underscoring that the fight against discrimination is a crucial societal obligation.
Anyone who supports terrorism, anyone who incites antisemitism must expect to be prosecuted; we do not tolerate antisemitism," he said at the event organized by the International Auschwitz Committee.
Scholz called the Holocaust a 'responsibility that each and every one of us bears in our country, regardless of family history, regardless of religion or the birthplace of our parents or grandparents.'
Scholz stated, combating antisemitism is a task for all citizens, especially due to the 'increasingly shameless attempts to normalize far-right positions.'
Britain's Queen Camilla emphasized the importance of the words 'Never forget,' in her speech days before the 80th anniversary commemorations for the liberation of Auschwitz.
