The Eventin, a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker from Russia's Ust-Luga port, has lost power near Germany's coast, carrying 100,000 tons of oil amid heavy maritime conditions.
Germany's foreign minister highlighted the vessel as part of Russia's 'shadow fleet' employed to bypass international sanctions imposed following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Despite the vessel being adrift in rough seas, the Central Command for Maritime Emergencies confirmed that no oil leaks had been reported, indicating a managed situation.
Efforts to secure the Eventin include deploying a team of towing specialists via helicopter to ensure safe distribution of the tanker’s oil load among three tugboats.
