Germany calls for new sanctions on Russia's dark fleet that is 'damaging major undersea cables' nearly every month

Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock highlighted the increasing incidence of undersea cable damage caused by ships, urging for new EU sanctions on the dark fleet.

Baerbock noted that ships frequently damage undersea cables, indicating a pattern that raises concerns: 'It's more than difficult to still believe in coincidences. This is an urgent wake-up call for all of us.'

The EU has already sanctioned 79 vessels from Russia's shadow fleet due to their illegal operations, raising financial and environmental concerns as these ships often lack insurance.

Finnish police are investigating the incident involving the Eagle S oil tanker as 'aggravated criminal mischief,' linking it to recent damage of vital undersea cables.
