Gardai arrest two men in relation to fire at Drogheda Ipas centre
"On Hallowe'en evening, gardaĆ­ were alerted to a fire at the property on Georges Street, Drogheda at around 8.15pm. An adult, three children and a 20-day-old baby, were evacuated from the top floor of the building. A number were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for medical assessment. Following initial reports of the fire being started by the discharge of fireworks, investigations later indicated "that the fire was started deliberately by person or persons unknown"."
"A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation from the incident room at Drogheda Garda Station. CCTV footage of the incident showed one man, with his face concealed and wearing gloves, kicking in the door of the property at around 8.30pm on Friday. Accelerant, which is believed to be petrol, was then poured on the stairs and set alight."
On Hallowe'en evening a fire was reported at a residential property on Georges Street, Drogheda at about 8.15pm. An adult, three children and a 20-day-old baby were evacuated from the top floor and several people were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for assessment. Initial suggestions of fireworks were superseded by findings that the fire was started deliberately. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and detectives are reviewing CCTV showing a masked man forcing entry and pouring an accelerant believed to be petrol on the stairs before setting it alight. Two men in their 20s have been arrested and are detained as investigations continue.
