Fury at plan to turn pub function room into flat - 'There's no other space like it'
Briefly

Ori Calif, owner of Magdala Tavern, has requested Camden Council to convert the first floor of the pub into a two-bedroom flat. Despite being an asset of community value and a site of historical significance, the application has faced strong opposition from local groups. Critics argue that the space serves vital community functions rather than residential purposes. The pub’s operator states that maintaining the first floor would threaten its financial viability, arguing it is unfeasible in light of current economic pressures and emphasizes the need for additional housing in the area.
The function room upstairs should be reinstated to serve this purpose. It brought the neighbouring community together for comedy nights, environmental talks, birthday and celebrations.
I do not wish to occupy the first floor of The Magdala Pub, as it would significantly increase my costs, including heating, maintenance, staff costs and business rates.
