"She described that health scare as a turning point. A turning point for me or a time when a switch was flicked was in the lead-up to the Paris Games, I went through some health challenges, which quite frankly really rocked me mentally. Ariarne Titmus, a four-time Olympic gold medallist and 25-year-old Tasmanian distance swimmer, announced shock retirement from swimming. She said a cancer scare before the Paris Games and subsequent surgery to remove two benign tumours on her right ovary triggered a mental reassessment. She described the health challenges as a turning point that made her consider life beyond swimming and prioritize personal goals. Titmus won a historic third individual Olympic gold in the 400m freestyle at Paris, defeating Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh. She said she loved swimming but is excited about the future and what's next.
