Firefighters remain at scene of large blaze at Balbriggan waste facility as residents told to 'keep windows closed'

Six fire engines, including a turntable ladder, plus a foam tender and water tanker are operating at the scene. Smoke has been drifting across the locality, prompting crews to advise residents to keep all doors and windows closed as a precaution. Dublin Fire Brigade requested assistance from ESB Networks and increased water pressure from Fingal County Council. Firefighting operations are ongoing and are expected to continue for the foreseeable future, with crews remaining on site.
"Dublin Fire Brigade was called at 0630hrs this morning to reports of a fire in a recycling facility in the Stephenstown Industrial Park," a spokesperson said. "Six fire engines including a turntable ladder attended the incident and these units were supported by a foam tender and water tanker. Smoke drifted across the locality and we have asked local residents to keep all doors and windows closed as a precaution. We've requested the assistance of ESB Networks at the fire and have asked for increased water pressure from Fingal County Council. Firefighting operations are continuing and we expect to be on scene for the foreseeable future," they added.
The operation has since been scaled up, with six fire engines - including a turntable ladder - now at the scene, supported by a foam tender and a water tanker. Smoke has been drifting across the locality and crews continue to urge residents to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution.
