The campaign aims to pressure a major source of revenue for Moscow that funds the war against Ukraine. Makeshift defenses, including nets over tanks and cage-like coverings on ships and armored vehicles, have been deployed to protect energy infrastructure and frontline logistics routes from drone attacks. The Kuybyshevskiy refinery in Samara region was struck in late August despite such defenses. Defensive measures have been observed at multiple sites across Russia.
