At least eight people have died and 15 are injured after a fire broke out at a food market in Zhangjiakou, northern China. The incident highlights safety concerns in crowded markets where sources of fire can range from gas bottles, charcoal used to roast meat, to discarded cigarettes.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the fire at Liguang market broke out midday Saturday and was mostly extinguished two hours later, raising alarms about the risks tied to traditional shopping venues.
