"The interviews have clarified the course of events and the different roles of the crew members,"
"Import of such sanctioned goods into the EU is prohibited under EU sanctions regulations,"
Finnish authorities arrested two crew members of the Fitburg and placed two others under travel bans while questioning all crew in an investigation of damage to an undersea telecommunications cable linking Helsinki and Tallinn. The Fitburg was en route from St. Petersburg to Haifa and was observed dragging its anchor near the fault site in Estonia’s exclusive economic zone, prompting seizure of the vessel. The ship’s 14 crew members are from Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan and the vessel sails under St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Finnish Customs found structural steel in the cargo subject to EU sanctions and is investigating applicability; police are probing aggravated criminal damage, attempted aggravated criminal damage, and aggravated interference with telecommunications.
