Fethullah Gulen, a US-based cleric who founded a powerful Islamic movement and was accused of orchestrating a failed coup, has died at 83.

Known as Hodjaefendi, Gulen's influence grew from student dormitories to an expansive network promoting moderate Islam and Western education globally.
