Exclusive: Lauren Graham Says This Star Inspired Her To "Toughen Up"
Briefly

Lauren Graham, now 57, recalls her early career days in 1995 when she moved to Long Beach, California, to pursue acting. Living on her aunt's couch, she would drive to LA for auditions, often waiting at the Beverly Center food court. This determination led her to land a pilot role in The Best Defense, which, although never aired, shaped her career. Her tenacity paid off with subsequent roles in hit sitcoms and eventually her iconic role in Gilmore Girls. Currently, she stars in Tubi's The Z-Suite as Monica, a woman navigating workplace challenges with Gen Z colleagues.
I would drive into LA and sit at the Beverly Center food court... If I had two auditions three hours apart, I would sit and eat an Auntie Anne's pretzel.
In the middle of my speech, [Moreno] goes, 'Don't whine.' And I was like, Is that the scripted line? Or is she telling me not to whine... I think she was telling me to toughen up.
Following The Best Defense, Graham would book a string of parts in popular sitcoms, including 3rd Rock from the Sun, Caroline in the City, and Seinfeld.
Now, Graham is returning to TV as Monica, a successful ad executive who loses her job after making a tone-deaf commercial, in Tubi's The Z-Suite.
