Sen. Joni Ernst has reintroduced legislation aimed at moving 30% of Small Business Administration (SBA) bureaucrats outside the Washington D.C. area. The "Returning SBA to Main Street Act" seeks to improve accessibility for small businesses and enhance customer service by requiring the agency to significantly reduce its office space. Ernst asserts that the SBA has been ineffective over the past four years, likening it to a business with a 'closed for business' sign. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to downsize government and promote geographic diversity in the workforce.
"Every small business owner knows that if your customers can't reach you, your doors won't be open very long," Ernst told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
"The SBA might as well have had a closed for business sign on its door for the last four years with bureaucrats permanently out of office."
"There is no better way for the Trump administration to help the SBA improve its customer service and better serve the American people than to get bureaucrats out of the beltway bubble and closer to Main Street."
"Taxpayers will no longer be forced to pay for vacant buildings! We are going to continue to condense office space, sell off the excess, and downsize government."
