European leaders say Iran has not taken sufficient steps to avert reimposition of UN sanctions tied to its nuclear programme as a 30-day snapback period nears its deadline. The EU foreign policy chief and the E3 (France, Britain, Germany) met Iran's deputy foreign minister at the UN General Assembly and agreed to continue consultations while urging tangible Iranian action. The E3 initiated the 30-day process on August 28, which ends September 27. European states accuse Iran of breaching the 2015 JCPOA after Tehran rolled back commitments following the US withdrawal and renewed sanctions in 2018.
