The EU's anti-fraud office has opened an investigation into a Hungarian nursery that, despite costing nearly €2 million, only accommodates 12 children, costing €150,000 per child.
Hungarian MP Ákos Hadházy claims, "This is theft. It's easy to find the link between the construction company and the other tenderers. It was manipulated procurement."
The Hungarian Integrity Authority is currently investigating a separate case involving the mayor's friend who allegedly misappropriated around €1.2 million in EU funds for unaccounted fish ponds.
With Hungary consistently ranked among the most corrupt countries in Europe, Transparency International labels it as the most corrupt EU member, raising alarms about ongoing public fund mismanagement.
