A second collision occurred on the R147 Dublin Road in Navan around 7pm between two vehicles. Emergency services, including the fire brigade and gardaĆ­, attended the scene and traffic diversions were put in place. Earlier, a major search and rescue operation took place in central Navan after reports that a child had entered the river at Newbridge (Loreto Bridge) following a crash. The reports were subsequently found to be false and the search was stood down after several hours. A Coast Guard helicopter, Meath River Rescue boats and other emergency services were deployed and surrounding roads were closed. A minor four-car crash on the bridge caused no injuries and one car was towed.
