"I started a bit at a time, but of course they didn't like it because people were starting to stop and they didn't like what they thought it would be. So the more that they complained, every year I added more and more." - Lucy Spata, pioneer of the Dyker Heights holiday decorating tradition.
"It's fun to see all the lights and all the people that are here. Everyone is in the spirit," said Roman Lansao, highlighting the communal joy of visiting Dyker Heights during the holidays.
"We saw pictures online, but it's even more magical in person," added Karen Guillermo, showcasing the enchanting allure of the Dyker Heights Christmas lights experience.
The Dyker Heights Christmas lights have grown from a local tradition to an attraction that draws thousands of visitors each year, rivaling even Manhattan's renowned holiday displays.
