Dublin City Council will increase rents for all tenants in DCC social housing under a new income- and household-size-based model, with larger and multi-earner households facing the biggest rises. A single occupant with a net weekly income of €244 would see rent rise 10% from €31.80 to €34.92. A household with a principal earner on €961 and two adult subsidiary earners totaling €900 weekly would see rent rise 35% from €181 to €244, and additional subsidiary earners could push increases beyond 50%. Current calculations charge 15% of the principal earner with the first €32 exempt, apply the same to subsidiary earners up to €21 weekly, include up to four subsidiary earners, and exclude the fifth and subsequent earners. Self-employed tenants are assumed to earn either €500 or €560 weekly. Councillors approved a €1.7bn budget by 31 to 30 votes amid protests, and an amendment to increase commercial rates instead of rents was defeated.
