An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Izmir was forced to divert to Bulgaria after a violent air‑rage incident onboard. A middle-aged passenger became violent and prompted the diversion. The passenger was travelling with his wife and children on October 11. He appeared to be "a little drunk and boisterous" when he boarded the flight to Izmir. The passenger's intoxication and boisterous behaviour at boarding preceded the in-flight escalation. The escalation posed a safety risk that compelled the pilot to change course and divert the aircraft to Bulgaria.
