A fire tore through Le Constellation bar in the resort town of Cran-Montana at about 1:30 a.m. local time as New Year's Eve revelers welcomed 2026. Dozens of people are believed dead and many others are likely injured or missing. Valais Canton police commander Frederic Gisler said authorities were shaken and extended deepest sympathy to victims and families. Valais Canton attorney general Beatrice Pilloud said authorities have ruled out terrorism and that no attack is suspected. The cause of the fire remains unknown. It is not yet known whether any Americans are among the casualties. Emergency response and investigations are ongoing.
