The upcoming change is the result of a domino effect taking place thanks to the new Monsters Inc. land being built in Hollywood Studios. The longtime attraction Muppet*Vision 3D will be shutting down to make room for the new section of the park. In order to maintain the Muppets' presence in Hollywood Studios, Kermit the Frog and company will take over the Rock 'N' Roller Coaster. This reflects a continual evolution in the park's attractions and themes to align with contemporary favorites.
A statement from the official Disney Parks Blog reads in part: "To make way for the monsters, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and more of their friends will be moving right along to Sunset Boulevard! But there's more to the story: The Muppets will be taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music's biggest stars for a rockin' music festival! We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster."
In recent years, there was speculation that the Aerosmith branding may get removed due to a sexual assault claim against singer Steven Tyler. That suit was dismissed, but earlier this year Aerosmith retired from touring as a result of Tyler's vocal injury. Perhaps, with the band now dormant, Disney World decided that it's a good time to move on from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act, marking the end of an era.
There’s still enough time to catch a super-stretch limo to the final ride on Rock 'N' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith before the transition fully takes place, allowing visitors to enjoy the beloved attraction while it lasts. Many fans are already expressing a mixture of nostalgia for the original ride and excitement for the new Muppets-themed experience.
