"He took his last breath in the arms of his family," his wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, wrote. "A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many."
Aside from acting, the Northrops owned a cattle ranch and dedicated their time to wildlife preservation and environmentally-friendly farming.
Northrop was one of three men to play Roman Brady on the long-running soap opera, portraying him from 1981-1984, and returning in 1991.
Northrop's death marks a significant loss to the Days of Our Lives community, as he was beloved for his work on the show and beyond.
