Daniel Chapo: Who is Mozambique's next president? DW 10/25/2024
Briefly

"We reject outright, categorically and absolutely the results presented... They are totally false results," claimed independent candidate Venancio Mondlane, alleging electoral fraud.
"It's an extremely sensitive situation at the moment because we know that we are already at a high level of polarization in the country," said political scientist Jose Jaime Macuane.
Chapo, from Frelimo, won 70.67% compared to 20.32% for Mondlane, raising allegations of electoral manipulation favoring the ruling party.
Chapo's election marks a significant historical transition as he becomes the first president not to have fought in the 16-year civil war.
