The government is introducing strict measures against online gambling under the new Cyber Protection Ordinance-2024, imposing penalties including up to two years in prison for violators.
Under the proposed ordinance approved by the cabinet, individuals creating, operating, or using gambling portals or apps will be considered as having committed an offense.
Participation in gambling activities, providing assistance, or engaging in advertising will also be treated as criminal conduct, with penalties reaching up to Tk 20 lakh.
Fahim Mashroor emphasized that these measures aim to curb the menace of online gambling and safeguard the digital environment from exploitative practices.
