This investigation revealed a pattern of nonprofit executives receiving exorbitant salaries, such as $916,000 for Acacia Network's CEO, highlighting systemic corruption within the homeless shelter system.
The report disclosed that at least 13 out of 87 contracted shelter providers failed to report executive salaries, indicating potential misconduct and further abuse in the system.
SEBCO Development Inc. exemplified these abuses, using $11.6 million of taxpayer funds for its security services while its executives simultaneously extracted nearly $400,000 in salaries from the security firm.
