Curling opens competition at 2026 Winter Olympics as brief power outage pauses play, luge training
""brief interruption to competition due to an energy-related issue""
""Being amongst the best, it's a very cool atmosphere to be part of,""
""We're looking forward to being ready to compete and pour our hearts out on the ice.""
The 2026 Winter Olympics curling mixed-doubles matches in Cortina began with a brief power outage that dimmed lights and cut heat in a nearby media center, causing about a three-minute pause. Players continued sliding on the ice to stay ready and competition resumed quickly. The outage also delayed the start of men's singles luge training by about a half-hour. Snow fell steadily across the resort with more than eight inches in some places. Eight mixed-doubles teams opened competition two days before the opening ceremony, while fans cheered, rang bells, waved flags and supported national teams.
