The driverless car company Cruise admitted to making a false report to influence a federal investigation, leading to a $500,000 fine from the Justice Department.
"Companies with self-driving cars that seek to share our roads and crosswalks must be fully truthful in their reports to their regulators," said Martha Boersch.
In addition to the fine, Cruise will have to establish a new safety program as a part of the penalties imposed by federal authorities.
The incident involved one of Cruise's self-driving cars dragging a woman who had been hit by another vehicle, resulting in her hospitalization for serious injuries.
