Croke Park boss says heavier fans may force stadium to cut capacity as it rakes in 60m a year
"The National Football League (NFL) - American football's professional arm - has sanctioned its first ever match in Ireland. It will be a 'home' game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who take on the Minnesota Vikings. Croke Park's capacity will be reduced to 72,000 for the match, partly because the NFL has insisted that temporary seats are put into Hill 16, but there were more than 600,000 applications for tickets."
"It is thought that the stadium will rake in anywhere between €8m and €10m for renting itself out for the two Oasis shows, the Robbie Williams gig and the NFL game. Last year, the venue hosted six concerts - four Coldplay shows and one each for Bruce Springsteen and AC/DC. Cumulatively, the gigs earned a cool €14.2m for Croke Park."
Croke Park hosted sold-out Oasis concerts and a Robbie Williams gig during a busy summer while preparing to stage the NFL's first sanctioned match in Ireland on September 28. The NFL fixture will be a 'home' game for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Minnesota Vikings, with capacity reduced to 72,000 because of temporary seating in Hill 16 and more than 600,000 ticket applications. The stadium expects between €8m and €10m from renting for the Oasis shows, Robbie Williams and the NFL game. Last year six concerts generated €14.2m and total stadium revenue reached €60m, boosted by increased Gaelic football attendance.
