Crews return to the Potomac River to recover wreckage from DC midair collision
Briefly

A midair collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River resulted in the deaths of 67 individuals, marking the deadliest air disaster in the U.S. since 2001. Recovery efforts are underway, with authorities having identified 55 victims so far. Over 300 responders, including divers and salvage workers, are involved in the recovery, prioritizing the dignified retrieval of remains. The incident unfolded as the jet was landing, while the helicopter was on a routine training mission, leaving no survivors from either aircraft.
Divers and salvage workers are adhering to strict protocols and will stop moving debris if a body is found, Col. Francis B. Pera of the Army Corps of Engineers said Sunday.
More than 300 responders were taking part in the recovery effort at a given time, officials said. Two Navy barges were also deployed to lift heavy wreckage.
