Coyote Creek cleanup draws San Jose teen volunteers
Briefly

On Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, over 80 volunteers participated in the 10th Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful cleanup, focused on an area near a recent homeless encampment. Coordinated by volunteer leader Jeweliette Pearson, participants filled 124 bags with 4 tons of trash, including shopping carts and litter. Volunteers received gear, worked in groups, and found the effort rewarding, with students able to earn community service hours while contributing to environmental efforts focused on the 63.6-mile stretch of Coyote Creek.
Each volunteer received a neon vest with 'Volunteer' printed on the back, gloves, a metal claw-like trash picker, and a big green plastic bag.
In total, they filled 124 bags of trash weighing 4 tons from Coyote Creek.
