Nashville punk band Winona Fighter releases their debut full-length album, My Apologies to the Chef, while grappling with the "sellout" stigma amidst their rise. Frontwoman Coco Kinnon reflects on the challenge of maintaining their DIY identity after signing to Rise Records. Band members, with substantial local scene experience, emphasize their commitment to independence, choosing to self-produce rather than collaborate with big-name producers. This decision ensures their debut remains authentic and represents their true selves despite increasing visibility in the music scene.
"A big thing for us was, as a DIY punk band, how do we sign to a label and not seem like sellouts?" Kinnon tells Consequence.
"We have some huge producer connections that we could have jumped into the studio and done a bunch of stuff with, but I think we just wanted [the album] to be 100% us." Luther explains.
