Cop29 talks run overtime as agreement far from achieved on money for climate action
Briefly

The poorest countries have been adamant the money needs to come from the rich nations who have the historical responsibility for carbon pollution. They also want it mainly in the form of no-strings attached grants as loans are putting them into more debt.
Immediate reactions were negative from developing countries which declared the proposals little better than the first draft text presented on Thursday which contained no monetary figure at all.
Environment Minister Eamon Ryan who is representing Ireland at the talks said: "There has been progress made between the first and second drafts of the text but there is still work to be done across a range of areas. It's important that we get a deal here and Ireland will play its part to ensure this."
A goal of achieving $1.3 trillion by 2035 is part of the proposal but it would be made up of all climate finance, including from middle-income developing nations, and much would be in the form of loans and private investment.
