Converted 19th-century stable in east Cork comes with large outbuilding, nut trees and all weather horse arena
Briefly

Located in Carrigtwohill, east Cork, this four-bedroom converted stable boasts two acres of land and potential for more. Priced at €640,000, the building underwent a thoughtful renovation by Stephen Griffin and his wife, transforming aged stables into a modern two-storey home. The property retains its equestrian roots, featuring a horse arena and surrounded by limestone, ideal for horse care. Griffin, a retired consultant, connected with the area's equestrian culture, and after living there for years, adapted the space for a new chapter in life as his children have moved away.
"The obvious thing to do was to renovate the stables and move in, as all my children are grown up now and living abroad," says Griffin.
"Many of my neighbours keep horses. East Cork has a huge amount of jockeys and trainers, and a long equestrian history," he says.
"There was always living accommodation above the stables, so it was a matter of building below and adding a spiral staircase to connect the two levels," he explains.
