"As announced in early September, certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players, and as a result we took the game offline," SIE chief executive, Hermen Hulst, stated. This highlights the mixed reception of the game, indicating that while some elements were praised, overall performance was insufficient for success.
"After much thought, we have determined the best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio," said Hulst. This decision underscores the serious consequences of a poorly received launch in the competitive gaming industry.
"Despite claims such as this, there was no indicator as to any of the characters' sexualities, and only one character used they/them pronouns," indicating that the criticisms directed at the game's inclusivity were unfounded and exaggerated.
"Analysis from Forbes estimated that the game, which reportedly cost over $200 million to make, was the 147th most played game on PlayStation during its launch week and may have earned just $1 million," underscoring the financial failure and poor market performance of Concord.
