Commission could propose rules for AI bosses and remote work next year | Euractiv
"The roadmap states that the Act could tackle AI in the workplace, especially the use of AI-driven software to manage workers. The EU has already discussed and passed rules for these kind of uses of AI in the case of workers providing services through platform companies like Uber. But the Commission is considering going further. The Quality Jobs Act will also build on input from employers and unions regarding conditions related to remote work - centring around a potential "right to disconnect"."
"Unions are keen for employees to have a right to not be disturbed by their workplace outside of working hours. Both these areas that are under consideration for inclusion in the Quality Jobs Act are contentious - and the Commission has not yet made up its mind over how exactly next year's proposal will address them. Employment Commissioner Roxane Mînzatu said on Thursday that she would like to examine how transparently AI is used in the workplace,"
An employment package planned for next year could introduce rules on algorithmic management and remote work through a proposed Quality Jobs Act. The Act could regulate AI-driven software used to monitor or manage employees, building on existing rules for platform workers like those on Uber while potentially extending further. The Act will consider a right to disconnect, reflecting employer and union input on remote work boundaries. The Commission seeks transparency, ethical limits and proportionality in workplace AI use. DG CNECT involvement and coordination between Employment and Tech Commissioners are expected as the proposal remains undecided.
