Deion Sanders named Kaidon Salter the starting quarterback Tuesday ahead of Friday’s opener against Georgia Tech. Salter transferred to Colorado after three years as a starter at Liberty and had been competing with five-star true freshman Julian Lewis for the job. Sanders praised Salter’s experience, dual-threat ability and throwing arm, and called him the starter at this point. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and volunteer assistant Byron Leftwich received credit for their work with Salter. Sanders expressed hope that Lewis will also see game reps. Salter threw for 5,889 yards with 56 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and ran for 2,006 yards at Liberty, and he replaces Shedeur Sanders, who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns.
The kid has a ton of experience, dual threat, can throw the heck out of the ball as well. He's the guy. He's the guy at this point.
He's done it before. This is not his first time running out the tunnel and getting the start. ... I like what he did in the spring and he's growing and growing and growing.
I defer to those two coaches to allow me to understand what I see as valid.
