Research shows that Christmas decorations can harbor up to five times more germs than toilet seats, suggesting they may pose a health risk during the festive season.
Jamie Woodhall from Initial Washroom Hygiene noted that as decorations are often shared among people during setup, the risk of cross-contamination increases, potentially leading to the transmission of illness.
The study demonstrated that over two-thirds of the examined decorations showed high levels of contamination, with tree boxes and trees being the most germ-laden items.
Analyzing decorations with ATP bioluminescence revealed that Christmas tree boxes had the highest contamination levels, emphasizing the need for careful cleaning of holiday decorations.
