The Chinese zodiac comprises 12 animal symbols with distinct personality traits associated with each sign. Nancy Yu Law, from the Chinatown History and Culture Association, has been involved in creating a mural dedicated to the zodiac in San Francisco's Chinatown for over a decade. Each animal, from the resourceful rat to the dependable ox, and competitive tiger, represents unique characteristics. These symbols are deeply rooted in Chinese history, having been utilized for over 5,000 years, signifying their cultural significance and the beliefs surrounding them.
"The zodiac story is Chinese history and culture, but it’s also legendary. We've been using the zodiac signs for over 5,000 years."
"People born in year of the rat are resourceful. They are kind, smart, intelligent, and loving."
"Oxens are known for dependability. They're diligent, known for strength and determination."
"They are competitive. They're also strong and unpredictable. Of course, they are very brave and self-confident."
