Charles Kay obituary
Briefly

Charles Kay, who has died aged 94, was one of the very best supporting actors of the past seven decades, celebrated for his precise articulation and a range of tones from rheumy-eyed grizzling to sarcastic pomposity.
In his long career, Kay made his name bolstering major companies in our postwar theatre, appearing in plays by luminaries such as Arnold Wesker and John Osborne.
His Celia in the all-male As You Like It was notably characterized by a forlorn and moody presence, demonstrating his ability to bring depth to his roles.
More recently, he was celebrated for his splendidly dyspeptic portrayal of the Earl of Caversham in a 2010 revival of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband, showcasing his talent in classical theatre.
