Ceann Comhairle asks Taoiseach to review 'lies' remark to Mary Lou McDonald
Briefly

During a recent Leaders' Questions session, Micheál Martin's comments towards Mary Lou McDonald were challenged, translating to an accusation of dishonesty. She requested an official withdrawal of his statement, citing Dáil rules prohibiting deceptive claims. However, Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy stated she could not rule on what she did not hear, prompting McDonald to file a written complaint later. Murphy has now reviewed the transcript and advised that Martin be asked to reconsider his comments in line with parliamentary decorum.
I have now had the opportunity to review the transcript, which I enclose. In view of the remarks made by the Taoiseach, I will copy this letter to him.
In the heat of debate in the Dáil chamber, it may sometimes be necessary to review remarks after the event when the transcript is available.
