Father Richard K. Gross, an 80-year-old Jesuit priest from Massachusetts, was found dead in Málaga, Spain, where he was reportedly preparing for a cruise. The Jesuits USA East Province stated that the cause of death is under investigation, but reports suggest he may have been murdered during a robbery. Gross had a long teaching career, including significant time at Boston College High School and Phillips Academy, and was known for his adventurous spirit. He is survived by three sisters and was a well-loved figure in his community.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic passing of Father Richard Gross," said the school.
Gross was known for his love of travel, his trademark self-confidence, and his characteristically independent and adventurous spirit.
