Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, Wednesday night as a Category 3 storm, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.
As hurricane-force winds pushed onshore in the evening, forecasters warned of "catastrophic" 9- to 13-foot storm surge near or just north of Sarasota.
Florida had the most tornado warnings in a single day on record, with more than 120 warnings issued, according to forensic meteorologist Pat Hyland.
NWS warned, "Hurricane force winds are imminent in this region so treat this as you would a tornado warning and get into your safe place immediately!"
