The carcass of an endangered fin whale, approximately 47ft long, has drawn attention in Anchorage as biologists investigate the possible causes of its death.
Barbara Mahoney from NOAA highlighted that the whale was likely between one to three years old, showcasing the vulnerability of young fin whales.
Mandy Keogh, a NOAA marine mammal stranding coordinator, noted that the whale's presence close to Anchorage was unusual, possibly influenced by recent high tides pushing it into Knik Arm.
Daisy Grandlinard shared her children’s excitement at seeing the whale, emphasizing the educational value of witnessing such marine life up close.
