Elizabeth Camacho, a resident of Cambridge, died after being struck by a vehicle in Maine. The incident occurred when a Buick jumped the curb while Camacho was walking along Park Street near Kennedy Park. She was taken to Central Maine Medical Center before being airlifted to Maine Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver, Lionel Francisco, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was driving on a learner's permit and cooperated with the police investigation, which is ongoing.
The vehicle had mounted the curb of Park Street and drove into Kennedy Park before stopping. Elizabeth Camacho was walking along Park Street across from City Hall.
Camacho was initially rushed to Central Maine Medical Center, then airlifted to Maine Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
Lionel Francisco, a native of Angola, was driving on a learner's permit during the crash and remained at the scene, cooperating with the investigation.
Francisco, 31, is being held at Strafford County Department of Corrections in Dover, New Hampshire, while the incident is under investigation.
