Cal student relives moment winning $100,000 at ESPN's 'College GameDay'
Briefly

"He scored a couple of what kids these days call bangers!" smiles Dario Fabian, coach of the Livermore High School Cowboys soccer team. Fabian recalls how even as a quiet teen, Daniel showcased his leadership and determination on the field, particularly when he asserted his capability to challenge himself and rose to the occasion during tryouts, asserting, 'yeah, I’m going to show you!' This determination leads to his remarkable achievement years later.
"I thought there was a zero-percent chance of it happening," Daniel said candidly about the moment he kicked the field goal for $100,000 during the College GameDay broadcast. His nonchalance about being selected among thousands illustrated his humility, yet it hints at the surprise and excitement that followed once the opportunity to make a historic kick presented itself.
"He called us early in the morning, maybe 5:30, and I was freaked out. Why is he calling us this early!?" said Soraya Villasenor, Daniel's mother. It was only when she grasped the situation of his appearance on national TV that excitement kicked in, prompting her to call family members to share the surprising good news of her son's achievement.
