Airline travelers might hope for a smoother experience this holiday season, much like last year when there were relatively few cancellations, but cooperation from the weather is essential. Additionally, a shortage of air traffic controllers could pose challenges, leading to potential delays despite clear skies.
"This will be the busiest Thanksgiving ever in terms of air travel," TSA Administrator David Pekoske emphasized, highlighting that their staffing levels are also the highest they have ever been, ensuring readiness to manage the surge in passenger numbers.
Nearly 80 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the Thanksgiving holiday, with a majority choosing to hit the road. Fortunately, drivers will face slightly lower gas prices compared to last year.
The Transportation Security Administration anticipates screening around 18.3 million passengers at airports throughout the Thanksgiving week, reflecting a 6% increase over last year's numbers, aligning with the broader trend of increasing holiday travel.
