Budget will focus on infrastructure not cost-of-living supports, Taoiseach says as he admits 30pc US tariffs would lead to job cuts
Briefly

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald urged the inclusion of a cost of living package in the upcoming Budget, citing rising costs like home heating oil and rent. Taoiseach Mr. Martin focused on infrastructure investments instead, claiming past government actions have already supported citizens amid inflation. He mentioned the extension of VAT reductions on gas and electricity and other supports, including increased fuel allowance eligibility and free HRT for women. McDonald countered that the ongoing economic pressures necessitate direct financial relief for citizens.
The deficit in infrastructure is on you. Home heating oil up by €25 per fill, rents up, LPT up, petrol and diesel up in May and again in October.
Prices are at a relatively elevated level following the peaking of inflation. This Government did an awful lot in terms of cushioning and trying to reduce the impact on people.
